What you can expect from this 11 day Grande Namibia Safari tour:
This Safari leads to the highlights of Namibia. You will be shown the oldest desert on earth, the Namib; Namibia’s coastal resort, Swakopmund; the rough terrain of the Damaraland with the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein and the great Etosha National Park with game in abundance. Namibia also means colourful and friendly people! Included in this safari is a visit to a native village, where life is going at a different pace.
This safari is the modern way of travelling: small groups, getting acquainted with many aspects of the country. Don’t rush, take your time and enjoy yourself – also included: an overnight stay at a spa, where you can spoil yourself with wellness treatments. For the very active and restless visitor, additional optional tours are offered, which you can book and join individually depending on your interests.

Day 1: Windhoek, NamibiaDepart at around 9:00am from Windhoek via the scenic and steep Spreetshoogte Pass to the beautifully set Namib Naukluft Lodge. A light lunch will be served. During the afternoon you have time to relax at the swimming pool and / or join a walking trail in the mountains.

Day 2: Namib Naukluft Lodge, NamibiaAn early morning rise will be rewarded by the sight of the spectacular dunes at Sossusvlei on your excursion. Make the effort and climb one of the dunes and you may be overwhelmed by the sight of the dynamic and living desert.
A full breakfast will be served under one of the Camelthorn trees at Sossusvlei. Visit the Sesriem Canyon before returning to the lodge for lunch. During the late afternoon a sundowner drive to the natural marble mountains on the 25 000 hectare private nature reserve is offered. Overnight at Namib Naukluft Lodge. Breakfast. Lunch. Dinner. |
Day 3: Namib Naukluft Lodge, NamibiaEn route to Swakopmund you will drive through the Namib Desert. Enjoy the Kuiseb Canyon, the drive along the Swakop riverbed and stops at the moonlandscape and at the Welwitschia Mirabillis, an ancient plant endemic to the Namib Desert.
The rest of the afternoon is spent at leisure and you can explore the little coastal resort on your own. Overnight on a bed and breakfast basis at the Hansa Hotel or the Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre. Breakfast. |
Day 4: Swakopmund, NamibiaYou shall drive to Walvis Bay this morning and you may want to join one of the optional tours (Kayaking in the Walvis Bay lagoon, Quadbiking on the dunes en route to Walvis Bay, a boat trip from the Walvis Bay yacht harbour) or you might enjoy walking along the lagoon and view the prolific birdlife with a huge population of Flamingoes.
Return to Swakopmund in the afternoon and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. (Optional: A sundowner flight along the coastline in a small aircraft) Overnight on a bed and breakfast basis at the Hansa Hotel or the Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre. Breakfast. |
Day 5: Swakopmund, NamibiaToday you drive along the coastline via Henties Bay and Uis to the vast regions of the Damaraland. You shall visit the famous rock-engravings at Twyfelfontein and arrive at the Lodge during the course of the afternoon. The rest of the day is at leisure Overnight on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis at Twyfelfontein Lodge. |
Day 6: Damaraland, NamibiaYou carry on to the beautifully situated Huab Lodge to take part in some of the activities offered in this magnificent area, where desert Elephants are common visitors. A nature drive and birdwatching at Huab Lodge are unforgettable highlights. Your hosts, Suzi and Jan van der Reep are some of the most knowledgable and well-known conservationists in Namibia and their love for nature will make your stay an unforgettable one. (Optional wellness treatments are available upon request.) Overnight on a full board basis at Huab Lodge. |
Day 7: Huab Lodge, NamibiaAfter breakfast you will depart to one of the lodges near the western gate of the Etosha National Park, Otjovasandu. During the afternoon you may want to join an optional game drive on one of the farms.
The rare Mountain Zebra and Elan antelopes are found here. (You can also join an optional day trip by light aircraft exploring the Kaokoveld and visiting a native living Himba tribe, one of the last nomadic living people in Africa) Overnight on a bed and breakfast basis at Hobatere Lodge, Kavita Lion Lodge or Rustig Toko Lodge. Day 8: Otjovasandu, NamibiaToday you will enter the Etosha National Park at the western side. This gate is closed for the public and only open for tour operators with special permit. You shall see the 'Haunted Forest', before you arrive at Okaukuejo.
A floodlit waterhole at either of the camps enables you to view the game also during the evening and night time, which is otherwise not possible. Bed and breakfast at Okaukuejo or Halali Rest Camp. Dinner. Breakfast. |
Day 9: Etosha National Park, NamibiaA whole day in this great National Park lies ahead and you shall stop at various waterholes en route to view game. This Park is well-known for its huge herds of Zebra and antelope. With a bit of luck you should be able to spot Elephant, Lion and/or other predators.
You will leave the Park at the eastern side and overnight at Mokuti Lodge just outside the Van Lindequist gate. Bed and breakfast at Mokuti Lodge. Dinner. Breakfast. |
Day 10: Mokuti Lodge, NamibiaYou will enter once more into the Etosha National Park and explore the 'Fisherman's Pan' as well as the north eastern part at Andoni. You will leave the Park through the newly opened Nehale Lya Mpingana Gate and visit a typical Ovambo village just outside.
You have the opportunity to gain a little bit of insight to these native inhabitants living in their 'Kraals'. You will return the same route through the Etosha National Park for more game viewing before you arrive at Mokuti Lodge. Overnight, bed and breakfast at Mokuti Lodge. Dinner. Breakfast. |
Day 11: Mokuti Lodge, NamibiaAfter breakfast you will depart to Tsumeb an old mining town. You will visit the ethnological museum here and continue via Otjiwarongo to Okahandja, where you'll stop at the woodcrafters market. You can do some shopping here before you arrive in Windhoek during the late afternoon.
You may also want to extend your trip to the Caprivi Strip and / or one of the neighbouring countries. You shall be picked up with a twin-engined aircraft at Mokuti Lodge and fly to Lianshulu Lodge; to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and / or to the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Etosha National Aprk safari

Because there is no flowing water or river system within Etosha National Park in Namibia, the animals have to rely on waterholes and springs to quench their thirst. This provides fantastic game viewing.
