What you can expect from this 4 day Orange River Canoe Adventure tour:

A river adventure on the Orange River is more than merely a river ride. The Richtersveld area with the majestic Orange River flowing through is awesomely beautiful. The 4 day Orange River Canoe Adventure tour offers you days of relaxation, visual beauty, incredible sunsets, nights filled with fun around the campfire and peaceful sleep under the stars.

Orange River Canoe Adventure guests are supplied with all canoeing equipment, ie. 2 man Mohawk canoes, paddles and life-jackets. Experienced guides will accompany you providing catering, safety and assistance. All catering is handled by the guides and included in the overall price are breakfast, lunch and supper, which are all 5 star meals.

Liquor and soft drinks are however not included in the package. Glass bottles are not allowed on the river for conservation reasons, so please decant into plastic bottles or bring cans. Guests are also supplied with buckets to keep all your clothes, cameras etc. dry and provide cooler boxes for drinks.

Day 1:

Arrive at 'Provenance' camp after 5pm. Your first meal, dinner, will be available until 9pm.  If you arrive later there will be a hot water urn and coffee / tea / hot chocolate available.

Day 2:

After a hearty breakfast and safety briefing, you paddle off downstream. Each, Orange River Canoe Adventure, night is spent under the stars on the river bank.

Days 3 & 4 as above.

Last day: Return to camp for lunch - thereafter depart on your Orange River Canoe Adventure Tour at leisure. If you want to stay over, please arrange with camp management.

  • What is the weather like?

    Generally days are sunny. Between November and February it is extremely hot so come prepared. During the winter months it can get cold at night, so warmer clothing is required. Although this venue is in the desert, rain is not unheard of.

    What must you take?

    Wet gear: Costume, shorts, brimmed hat or peak cap, track shoes, strops, long sleeved shirt, t-shirts, windcheater ..

    Dry Gear: Tracksuit, underwear, track shoes, t-shirt, towel and sarong (Winter - Beanie, warm top)

    Drinks: A wide range of drinks is available for purchase from the camp shop. No bottles are allowed on the river. The company provides cordials (e.g. Clifton) on river and at camp. You will be supplied with cooler boxes and ice.

    General: Camera, knife, fork, spoon, mug, plate, small torch, toiletries (preferably biodegradable), sleeping bag, sleeping mat / lilo, ground sheet, small fold up tent (optional), insect repellent, sun protection lotion, deck chair (optional). To avoid disappointments please bring your own toilet paper, sleeping bags or a full equipment kit can be hired.

    For ecological reasons clients should understand that whatever goes into the boats with you at the start of the trip comes out again at the other side. The Orange River Canoe Adventure tour guide will carry a portable toilet as well as refuse bags, which should be used at all times.

    N.B! Passports are required for entry into Namibia. The Namibian authorities have introduced a levy on all vehicles entering their country and is payable at the border! Please ensure a "za" sticker is on your vehicle.

    Directions from Cape Town to Noordoewer:

    Take the N1 north. Take the Malmesbury turnoff. Take the N7 to Noordoewer, via Picketburg, Clanwilliam, Van Rhynsdorp and Springbok. (allow 8 hours). Distance ±680kms.
