What you can expect from this 14 day Untamed Rivers tour:

Explore the rivers and wilderness of central Southern Africa. Enjoy an all inclusive trip with cultural experience, adventure and wildlife. Travel from the wilds of Kafue National Park to the Victoria Falls, an open 4 wheel drive in Chobe National Park for supreme Elephant viewing and go canoeing on the Lower Zambezi River.

You will also visit the second largest park in Africa, the Kafue National Park, as well as the fascinating Lochinvar wilderness with its incredible birdlife and Botswana's Chobe National Park, famous for its huge herds of Elephant.

This trip explores the still largely undiscovered wilderness parks of Zambia. You will also learn about the local cultures and myths such as the Nyami Nyami which is a Zambezi River God legend.

Day 1: Lake Kariba, Zambia

Your Zambia camping safari begins in Livingstone at 06:30am heading into Zambia. Your tour travels to the shores of the massive Lake Kariba, which are approximately 290 kilometres long and 32 kilometres at its widest. The abundance of marine and wildlife of Lake Kariba provide valuable sustenance to the local communities living on the shores. You overnight at a peaceful camp overlooking the lake, the ideal place to enjoy sunsets over the lake. Lunch and dinner is included.

Days 2 & 3: Lower Zambezi, Zambia

Today you drive into the Lower Zambezi, where you will spend 2 nights at a lodge situated on the banks of the majestic Zambezi River. You will enjoy a full day of canoeing down the tempestuous river, home to the mythical god - Nyami Nyami.

This river attracts scores of Elephant and other wildlife. You spend the rest of the day bird watching and game viewing, followed by a relaxing evening around the crackling campfire, discussing the days events. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.

Day 4: Lusaka, Zambia

Today you bid farewell to the great Zambezi River and head towards the capital city of Zambia - Lusaka. You will overnight in this bustling city, camping on the outskirts of town and stocking up on supplies for your time in the Kafue National Park. You will also visit a local craft market in the afternoon. Breakfast and lunch is included.

Days 5 - 7: Kafue National Park, Zambia

Today your Zambia camping safari takes you to the northern part of the Kafue National Park, your base for the next 3 nights. This reserve was established in 1924 and covers a massive area of wetland and miombo woodland. This lush wilderness is a sanctuary for Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Puku, Lechwe and various antelope species, as well as over 400 bird species.

The Kafue River forms part of the eastern boundary of the reserve and is abundant in Hippo and Crocodile. This seldom visited area is untamed and reminiscent of the primal Africa of the past. You spend your morning and afternoons on game drives in search for the wealth of wildlife that makes Kafue National Park its home. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.

Days 8 & 9: Lochinvar National Park, Zambia

This national park is situated south of Lusaka on the Chunga Lagoon, an area rich in birdlife. The wetlands and surrounding floodplains brings forth herds of Buffalo, Lechwe and Zebra. Your Zambia camping safari will take a full day to explore this diverse and interesting area. Thanks to your visits, funding is provided to help support the anti poaching teams in the area. The communities living and working around the park provides a culturally rich experience. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.

Days 10 & 11: Chobe National Park, Botswana

On day 10 of your Botswana safari you cross the mighty Zambezi on the Kazungula ferry and enter Botswana. The Chobe River flows steadily along the northern boundary of the Park and attracts some of the largest Elephant herds in Africa.

You spend the morning on an exciting game drive in an open 4WD in search for Lion along the river banks. The afternoon invites the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing river cruise to observe the herds of Elephant, Lechwe, Puku and other wildlife quench their thirst. Your night is spent at a campsite on the banks of the river in Kasane. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included during your Botswana safari.

Days 12 - 14: Livingstone/Victoria Falls, Zambia

Today you journey to the spectacular 'smoke that thunders' - the Victoria Falls, one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. You will spend 2 nights in Livingstone, Zambia with sufficient time to enjoy the many adventures and activities of the area.

For an unforgettable adrenaline rush, white water rafting down the Zambezi River, bungi jumping or taking the 'flight of Angels' proves exhilarating and not for the faint hearted. For a more tranquil but equally memorable experience, ride on the back of a majestic Elephant (own expense) - a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Your tour ends after breakfast on day 14 at 08:00am. Transfers to the airport or your accommodation can be arranged. Breakfast is included.

    Boat and canoe:
    You enjoy an afternoon river cruise on the Chobe River in a 16 seater launch or pontoon cruiser. You also enjoy a full day of exhilarating canoeing down the Lower Zambezi. The canoes are stable and easy to paddle.

    Open game drives:
    Game viewing in the Chobe National Park is from the comfort of open 4WD vehicles that are spacious.

    Safari truck:
    A custom built safari truck with 12 forward facing seats provide comfort and good game viewing. You will experience a couple of long days driving during your tour, but vehicles are incredibly comfortable and travel at a good cruising speed.

    Difficulty:

    This trip should be enjoyed by anyone generally active and in good health. Please note that participation is an important part of this safari, from setting up and pulling down tents, to cleaning up after meals. Road conditions on this tour varies from area to area, and please be aware that some days may be delayed due to local conditions.
