Okaukuejo is the most popular and also the oldest resort in the Etosha National Park. It has been in existence since the early fifties and is characterized by its thatched bungalows. The waterhole at Okaukuejo is floodlit at night and spectacular wildlife is almost guaranteed on your African safari. Lions, Elephants and Black Rhino come to quench their thirst at night. You will camp at Okaukuejo. |
Day 8: Etosha Pan - Namutoni, NamibiaToday on your African safari you will observe the spectacular wildlife activity around the waterholes where game concentrates during the dry season. Lunch en route. Your day long game drive takes you around the edge of the Etosha Pan to Namutoni, and along famous game routes in the Etosha Park.
Namutoni is centred around an old German fort built in 1903. It was later extensively renovated in the eighties and a shop and restaurant complex was added. You will overnight at Namutoni campsite. |
Day 9: Grootfontein - Rundu - Xwasi, NamibiaLeaving the Etosha National Park, on your African safari, you will travel via Grootfontein to Rundu on the Kavango River. You will overnight at Nxwasi Campsite. |
Day 10: Caprivi - Shakawe, BotswanaYou will reach the Caprivi and cross the border into Botswana. On your African safari you will travel through the village of Shakawe to arrive at Drotsky's Campsite situated on the banks of the Okavango River. You will overnight at Shakawe Campsite. |
Day 11: Okavango River - Shakawe, BotswanaEnjoy a motor boat excursion on the Okavango River on your African safari, which is at its widest in this area. An abundance of bird life nest in the high papyrus fringing the river's edge and you can look out for the shy Sitatunga antelope that live here and feed off the papyrus.
A walk down to the river from the campsite offers an opportunity for bird watching on your African safari. You will overnight at Shakawe Campsite. |
Day 12: Maun, BotswanaAn early departure to drive down the west side of the Okavango Delta to arrive in Maun, Gateway to the Okavango. You will arrive at your camp, unpack and relax. In the afternoon an optional game flight offers you an aerial view of the Delta. Time for a welcome drink around the campfire, before dinner is served. You will overnight at Maun Camp. |
Day 13: Moremi Game Reserve - Xakanaxa Lagoon, BotswanaYou will make an early start and drive through traditional villages to enter Moremi Game Reserve's South Gate, with a possibility of game viewing on your way in. Your route takes you on a scenic drive through the Moremi forests to Xakanaxa Lagoons. You will camp near Xakanaxa. |
